What is the story behind the artwork?

This October, a storied company with more than 65 years of history in business commissioned an elegant sculpture. With an HQ located in Wisconsin, Hy Cite specializes in kitchenware sales. When leaders at the company wanted to make an impression on their campus for employees and visitors, they knew they wanted an extraordinary work of art. That's where CODAworx and Michael Szabo entered the picture! CODAworx provided complete Concierge Art Services, writing the RFQ, posting the artist call, sending multiple eBlasts, managing meetings, setting up voting channels, arranging artist interviews, and helping to facilitate the artist/client contract.

From the official press release:

Designed by artist Michael Szabo, Affinity features flowing ribbons of stainless steel and bronze, symbolizing the dynamic, evolving connections between Hy Cite, its distributors, employees, and the communities it serves. The contrast of materials reflects both the resilience and warmth inherent in the company’s culture. Standing tall at the heart of Hy Cite’s campus, the sculpture serves as a reminder of the values that define the company: trust, support, authenticity, tradition, empathy, warmth and dedication.

Commenting on the sculpture, Jessica J. Marquez, Chief Legal Officer and Senior Vice President of Hy Cite, provided context for the meaning of the sculpture: “Affinity reflects not just our history but our values. It reminds us of the relationships we’ve built and the importance of nurturing those partnerships in the future.”

Hy Cite contacted CODAworx looking for a top sculptor to create this key piece of artwork to reflect the company’s values. CODAworx ran the Open Call for artists and steered the selection committee through the review and interview process. Dozens of top artists applied and ultimately, Michael Szabo was commissioned to create a major piece of art. More from the Hy Cite press release:

The unveiling ceremony brought together key figures from the Hy Cite community, including the Johnson family, founders of the company, artist Michael Szabo, and executives like Erik Johnson, Executive Chairman of the Board. In his remarks, Johnson highlighted the sculpture’s significance: “Affinity represents our company’s vision, commitment to excellence, and the constant evolution of our work. It’s a symbol of our resilience and our forward momentum.”

Retired distributor Dan Beaman reflected on the sculpture’s meaning, stating, “This artwork symbolizes the beauty and strength of the relationships we’ve built. Every individual connected to Hy Cite is critical in creating this shared journey.”

Closing the ceremony, Hy Cite’s CEO and President, Paulo Moledo, celebrated the company’s legacy and its future: “Affinity captures the heart and soul of Hy Cite. It is a reminder of our mission and a future, anchored in integrity, quality, and community.”
